In February 2024, output in services decreased over one month (‑0.4%), after an increase in January 2024 (+0.4%).

Over a month, output went down in particular in transportation and storage

In February 2024, output went down again in transportation and storage (‑5.2% after ‑1.1%) due to water transport (‑10.6% after ‑18.6%) and also land transport (‑7.2% after +5.9%). It fell back into administrative and support service activities (‑1.4% after +0.9%) and real estate activities (‑0.3% after +3.1%). Conversely, it bounced back in accommodation and food service activities (+2.6% after ‑0.7%). It increased in information-communication (+0.8% after 0.0%), accelerated slightly in professional, scientific and technical activities (+0.5% after +0.4%) and slowed down in arts, entertainment and recreation (+1.1% after +1.8%).

Over a year, output in services was up by 3.0%

Output for the last three months (December 2023 to February 2024) was 3.0% higher than the same period a year earlier. It increased substantially in information-communication (+4.6%) and arts, entertainment and recreation (+8.9%). It went up more moderately in professional, scientific and technical activities (+2.3%), administrative and support service activities (+3.4%), transportation and storage (+2.3%) and accommodation and food service activities (+2.9%). On the contrary, it dropped in real estate activities (‑1.5%).

Revisions

The monthly change in the services production index in January 2024 is unchanged (after rounding) at +0.4%, compared to the previous release.
